Ukraine Developing Air Defence System to Counter Russian Oreshnik Missiles, Syrsky Confirms

Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has announced that the country is actively working on acquiring a modern air defence system capable of intercepting the Russian Oreshnik missile. In an interview with journalist Andriy Tsapliyenko, Syrskyi discussed Ukraine’s efforts to address this specific threat and outlined the steps being taken to enhance the country’s defences.

Syrskyi explained that the Oreshnik missile is a significant threat, with only a few air defence systems currently able to intercept it. Although Ukraine does not possess these advanced systems yet, Syrskyi stressed that the country is doing everything possible to obtain them. He emphasised that Ukraine’s defence industry is working tirelessly to develop its own air defence solutions, and the focus is not only on anti-air systems but also on creating an effective anti-missile system.

The Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief highlighted that the threat posed by the Oreshnik missile is a key driving force behind the country’s increased efforts in both negotiating with allies for advanced defence technologies and in developing its own capabilities. Syrskyi expressed optimism that these efforts would soon yield results, allowing Ukraine to bolster its defences and better protect its airspace from missile threats.

Additionally, Syrskyi indicated that ongoing negotiations with international partners are crucial to the acquisition of advanced systems that can intercept such sophisticated threats.
