Kyiv, UNN – The United States has suspended both cyber operations and the planning of future cyberattacks against Russia. This decision, made under the Trump administration’s policy shift, has raised serious concerns about the country’s ability to defend itself against potential cyber threats from Moscow. Experts warn that the move could leave the United States more exposed to attacks from Russian hackers who have the capability to target critical infrastructure and gather sensitive intelligence.
A senior US military official confirmed the suspension but declined to provide specific details, citing operational security concerns. The official stressed that national security remains a priority for US Secretary of Defense Pete Hagel, particularly in cyberspace operations. Despite these assurances, many within the intelligence and defence communities worry that this pause in cyber operations could weaken the United States’ ability to counter Russian cyber activities.
The decision comes as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to ease tensions with Moscow. The Kremlin has responded positively to this shift in US policy. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov praised Trump’s approach, calling it a sign of “common sense,” while Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov welcomed the new US position on a United Nations resolution.
