Moscow Airports Shut Down Amid Massive Drone Attack

A large-scale drone assault on the Moscow region forced authorities to suspend operations at three major airports, highlighting Ukraine’s increasing ability to target Russian infrastructure. Russian air defence systems claimed to have intercepted several drones, but the disruption was undeniable.

Reports indicate that the attack affected multiple districts within Moscow’s surrounding areas. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, drones were intercepted over the Kolomna and Ramensky urban districts, with another downed in the Troitsky Administrative District. The full extent of the damage remains unclear as Russian officials attempt to downplay the severity of the situation.

As a direct consequence of the attacks, flight operations at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports were temporarily halted. Russian aviation authorities confirmed the suspension, with passengers facing delays and disruptions. This marks a significant escalation in Ukraine’s drone warfare capabilities, as these airports are among the busiest in Russia, serving both domestic and international flights.

Location Reported Drone Activity
Kolomna Drones intercepted by air defences
Ramensky Drone attack repelled
Troitsky District Drone allegedly downed
Vnukovo Airport Operations suspended
Domodedovo Airport Flights disrupted

This attack underscores Ukraine’s growing ability to strike deep into Russian territory, causing logistical chaos and economic strain. The Kremlin has yet to issue a detailed response beyond standard statements about air defence effectiveness, but the impact of these strikes is undeniable.
