On 5 February 2025, Ukrainian strike forces carried out a successful operation that struck a devastating blow to Russian oil supplies. The target was the Albashneft oil depot, located on the northwestern outskirts of the village of Novominskoye in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. Satellite images released by Radio Liberty confirm the destruction caused by the attack, showing a completely burnt-out storage tank and damage to another. The depot’s loss amounted to 60 tons of oil.
The operation required Ukrainian drones or missiles to travel a remarkable distance of 100 km over occupied territory to reach the target. This long-range strike not only bypassed Russian air defences but also hit a critical infrastructure point well beyond the front lines. The Albashneft depot, which originally housed 11 storage tanks, has been left in ruins. Of the 11 tanks, nine were large and two were smaller. Satellite images show that one of the large tanks was completely destroyed, with only a blackened void remaining where it once stood. Another nearby tank has been visibly scorched on one side. The damage caused by the attack is significant and serves as a testament to the Ukrainian forces’ ability to penetrate deep into Russian-occupied territories, bypassing sophisticated air defences.
