Ukraine Brings New Charges Against Russian Propagandist Solovyov

Ukraine has issued new charges against Russian state media propagandist Vladimir Solovyov. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine confirmed that Solovyov, a prominent Kremlin mouthpiece, has been formally notified of changes to his previous charges, as well as new accusations.

Solovyov is accused of systematically using mass media, including his YouTube channel, to call for the violent overthrow of Ukraine’s constitutional order and to support Russian aggression. His rhetoric has included calls for changing Ukraine’s territorial borders, which have had severe consequences. Ukrainian authorities state that his actions amount to direct incitement of war and genocide.

Legal experts and human rights activists have been pushing for international accountability for Russian propagandists, including Solovyov. Last year, legal petitions were submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, requesting arrest warrants for Solovyov and fellow Kremlin figures Margarita Simonyan and Dmitry Kiselyov.

The new charges against Solovyov include attempting to overthrow the Ukrainian government, violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity, promoting war, justifying Russian aggression, and inciting genocide. The Prosecutor General’s Office cited multiple articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, including provisions that criminalise war propaganda and public calls for genocide.

In a similar move, Ukraine has also charged Russian television host Boris Korchevnikov with offences related to undermining Ukraine’s territorial integrity, justifying Russian aggression, and illegally crossing the border.
